Great portrait shoot of Michael Franti last week. His spirit and energy are inspiring. (I had to keep my assistants focused on the task at hand because he was so soulful, real, and present… and apparently mesmerizing…)
I am not often needing a ladder but this man is as tall as he is peaceful. Quite a combination.
We tagged a couple of days on the back end of our shoot up on Mt. Hood to catch up with some old friends and make some new… visited Wieden+Kennedy in hopes of connecting on a future project… strolled the swanky pearl district, checked out the funk in Hawathorne and milled around in my old hood of Sellwood before joining some best friends in Lake Oswego for a cocktail cruise and fabulous home cooked meal.
Here’s to life- past, present, and future.

Team Kiel was thrilled to finally coordinate on a project with Drake Cooper out of Boise shooting two commercials for Idaho’s Department of Labor…
The week was a power play shooting throughout the state- a windmill farm, solar panels, recycling plants, power lines, an early morning organic farm, a vinyard at dusk- despite the insanely long days of shooting,we didn’t want to put our camera’s down! Needless to say we are knee deep in editing… commercials will be aired in September.
The agency is progressive, playful and fantastic to work with. It was an honor to be frolicking in hard hat heaven with them. Looking forward to the next adventure!

Portland Oregon, known as the “City of Roses” is home of the phenomenon known as Voodoo Doughnut… located in the heart of downtown- there is a line out the door all hours of the day and night. The names are hilarious and the flavor combinations are crazy. From goth to Gucci, all walks of life are represented and mingle while they await their turn to order and carry their own pink box away…

Hello from our current location on Mt. Hood, Oregon! It just so happens I have a couple unexpected free hours…
There are days you are celebrating the weather and days you are cursing it…
The 15 person agency/client/crew is a blast, the scouting has worked out perfectly and although yesterday’s forecast was a bit shaky, the light turned out to be phenomenal- perfectly diffused and luminous… couldn’t have been better for day one of our week long shoot.
Today however, we are skunked with pea soup…visibility this morning was about 5 feet.
Supposedly it’s going to break this afternoon- we will make up for lost time… and undoubtedly have an amazing sunset… For now we are all catching up on emails, phone calls, and drinking too much coffee.
Even in pea soup life is good.
