I took my family down the main of the Salmon River in Idaho. There is no better way to unplug and have quality time with those you love. We put in with best friends (4 other families) and floated 100 miles of untouched wilderness. I managed to keep the rubber side down although we all almost swam Vinegar Rapid on the last day! Our days consisted of negotiating rapids, jumping in and floating sleepy stretches of river, water fights, amazing food, cold beer, lots of laughs and vibrant nights skies full of stars. I am truly recharged.
Visited San Francisco and interviewed some surf icons from back in the day… gathering amazing stories and perspectives as to how the surf scene infused our culture. Headed back to Hawaii this fall to continue the Aloha Spirit odyssey. Hoping to have the short film wrapped spring of 2013!
Making my way back across the US after Boston, and Connecticut… shot the urban element for Club Ride in NYC…..enjoyed a fun dinner with my producer and the boys at my film production company, Rabbit Content. Looking forward to another banner year with them! Love getting the pulse of NYC- there’s nothing like it.
Yes, this was my first debut in an electric car… although I appreciate the environmental stance, personally…it’s not for me. I’m pretty sure my leaf blower could take this thing on…
Looking forward to getting back to the dirt trails, horsepower of my GMC truck and living in the mountains.
Here are a few snapshots of my trip to Connecticut. I finally took the time to shoot a personal project on the east coast… had some great home cooked meals with friends, a little down time on the water, and ended up with killer images for my next mailer…
stay tuned!
Spent a couple days with my reps Paula and Mark to do our yearly planning, visited some agencies while I was in town and ended up backstage for a Coldplay concert thanks to my producer…
Gotta say it was a hell of a show.
Check out some of the images along with a short film I shot while in Havana Cuba in my interview for Garden and Gun…
I must say I visualized my first published image in Vanity Fair a bit differently…
Exotic locations, fast cars, musicians, insane food, and beautiful women, all come to mind. However, when Jimmy Kimmel gives a nod to my friends’ bakery in Stanley, Idaho, and they call for my image… it’s even better. Congrats to Tim, Becky and Kelly at Stanley Baking Company!
This may have been one of my favorite shoots, EVER.
The synergy of team/client/agency, the local ground crew we worked with, the dynamic remote locations (glaciers, raging rivers, rugged rock fields), along with the “ALL IN” attitude of our crew made for a seamless production. Needless to say, the real hero is my producer, Hilary, because despite the job being signed off on and approved months prior, our client had to move our entire production from Argentina to Whistler literally 2 weeks before the shoot!
One funny side note is that because of the late change in location, accommodations were tricky due to 20,000 people coming into town for a TOUGH MUDDER competition… As a result our Team Kiel crew stayed in a huge condo and hired a chef to cook for us for the week which we have never done before and it worked out great! We each had our own rooms, had client/agency over for dinner (so we weren’t battling the crowds when we wrapped at 9:30pm) and had a blast…
If you are ever shooting in Whistler:
Our phenomenal scout/location manager/life coach/head standing specialist was Wayne Flann (604.938.3850) wango@direct.ca
Our personal chef/ kitchen goddess/blissful baker was Alice Savage (604)848.9770
Shooting for Clover Leaf Creamery, I was able to show off my cow whispering skills…
Connecting with the cows wasn’t a problem, negotiating land mines was!
We are shooting an ongoing project this summer for our homegrown biking company Club Ride. The product is technical performance gear but looks like what you would pull out of your closet to meet up with friends for a beer. And from a style/ comfort standpoint… it can definitely withstand the barstool test.
